AI label in dubbed videos
Last updated: October 17, 2026 · applies to PaliyTech Dubbing 1.0.3 and later
PaliyTech Dubbing creates a synthetic (text-to-speech) voice-over. Starting with version 1.0.3, every video it produces carries a machine-readable label saying that the voice was generated by AI, as Article 50(2) of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) requires. This page describes the label and how anyone can check it.
What is AI-generated in a dubbed video
- The voice-over — synthetic speech created by the app (online or offline voice). This is what the label is about.
- The picture — your original video, copied without changes.
- The original sound — kept under the voice-over, quieter.
- Subtitles — a machine translation of the text; they are not marked separately.
The label: tags in the MP4 file
The app writes these standard metadata tags into every finished MP4 (the version number changes with the app):
| Where | Tag | Value |
|---|---|---|
| File | comment | AI-generated audio: synthetic voice-over (PaliyTech Dubbing 1.0.3). EU AI Act Art. 50. IPTC digital source type: compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia. Info: https://paliy.tech/ai-label |
| File | description | Dubbed with AI: speech is synthetic (text-to-speech) |
| File | keywords | AI-generated,synthetic voice,AI dubbing |
| Voice-over audio track (its name) | handler_name | AI-generated voice (TTS) |
compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia is the IPTC “digital source type” for real footage combined with AI-generated media — here, an AI-generated voice.
Check it in Windows Explorer
- Right-click the dubbed video → Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- The Comments field starts with “AI-generated audio: synthetic voice-over”.
Check it with MediaInfo (free, Windows / macOS / Linux)
- Install MediaInfo from mediaarea.net.
- Open the dubbed video in it and choose View → Text.
- In the General section, Comment starts with “AI-generated audio: synthetic voice-over”; the Audio section shows the track name “AI-generated voice (TTS)”.
Check it with ffprobe (command line)
If you have FFmpeg installed, run:
ffprobe -v error -show_entries format_tags=comment,description,keywords:stream_tags=handler_name -of default=noprint_wrappers=1 my-dubbed-video.mp4The output contains TAG:comment=AI-generated audio: … and TAG:handler_name=AI-generated voice (TTS).
Why the label can disappear
Metadata survives copying and re-packaging, but is often lost when a video is re-encoded — many video platforms strip it on upload. That's why we're adding a second layer: an inaudible watermark in the synthetic voice (based on the open-source AudioSeal) that survives re-encoding. When it ships, this page will explain how to check it.
Please keep the label
Don't remove or alter the label on purpose (EULA §3A). If you publish a dub that could be mistaken for a real person's voice (a “deep fake” under the EU AI Act), tell your viewers it was generated or altered by AI — for example, with YouTube's “altered or synthetic content” disclosure or a short note in the description.
